The proposed independence referendum in Catalonia, which
everyone knows won’t happen, will have two questions. The first is: Do you want
Catalonia to be a State? If you answer yes to that, you can go on to the second
question: Do you want that State to be independent?
The nonsense, terminological and methodological, of this
procedure need not concern us here; I mention it to explain the nature of the poll
below. What I want to do is to point out that despite what is sometimes said
about support for independence, polls that are not managed by the Generalitat (Catalan
government) consistently fail to show a majority for independence. A month ago
one showed 35% and one published today (Spanish link) shows these figures.

These figures refer to all of Catalonia. I have not seen any
breakdown by provinces or cities but figures for Barcelona province would
certainly be lower than the average. It is hard to see how any independence
movement could be successful without the support of the capital.
